This post is a little different than previous ones. It is imperative that you read the introductory information for the Persuasion and Argumentation rhetorical modes (TNS pp. 517-532) and that you view the assigned videos in their entirety. We will be focusing on these rhetorical modes for the remainder of the semester.

You will need to obtain either a FREE TRIAL membership to HULU (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) if you don’t already have one. Another option is to purchase (for about $2) the episode of Law & Order listed below from Google Play, Amazon Video or another video service. NOTE: You will be watching an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The television show explores cases of sexual assault.

After you obtain access to HULU, watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 6, Episode 8 (“Doubt”). You may also purchase the episode from Amazon (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.), Google Play, Apple, etc.

THIS IS A TWO-PART PROMPT (Each worth 30 points).

In total, you will be writing two responses and replying to two posts:

Prompt 1: What logical fallacies did you find in the episode? Don’t just provide the name of the fallacy; thoroughly describe HOW the arguments are fallacious. Provide a substantial reply to one other post. Do you agree? Why?

Prompt 2:  Re-watch the inductive/deductive reasoning video and skim through the introduction to argumentation chapter in your text. What examples of inductive/deductive reasoning did you notice on the show? Detail the premises & conclusions (deductive) or answer the three questions related to inductive reasoning provided in the video. In other words, lay out the reasoning for each argument you select (In your own words). Provide a substantial reply to one other post. Do you agree? Why? What flaws are evident in your peer’s post? How could they avoid logical fallacies to strengthen their argument?
