Assessment Overview:

The purpose of this assessment is to analyse a contemporary people issue/trend in the workplace through identifying changes in one management practice and how this will impact on your life as a team member or manager now or in the future.

Due date: Week 6 Friday 5pm 30%
Weighting: 30%
Length and/or format: 1500 words +/- 10% (word count is exclusive of abstract/executive summary, block quotes, and reference list) Essay OR Report

Instructions

Choosing a topic from the list provided below, you will write either an analytical essay OR report identifying how this management practice will affect organisations now and in the future. In particular you will:

  • Identify what future proofing is
  • Examine the management practice and identify how it will influence an organisation
    • Now
    • In the future
  • Identify and explain what theoretical frameworks/concepts might be useful to explain the changes
  • Identify and recommend specific strategies that organisations could consider

Research

  • Your starting point should be the nominated future proofing article on LEO and links embedded in the article with related future proofing information.
  • You will need to use at least five additional academic journal and/or quality business publications to inform your thinking.

Structure

For this task you have a choice between essay or business report style. These styles are taught in BUSN104 and ACCT100 and are assessed to the same guidelines. You will need to include an abstract (essay) or executive summary (report).

In order to receive best marks for the communications component of your assignment, follow the guidelines set out for a report or for an essay.

For essay writers

Your goal is to write for an academic audience and argue that the management practice you have chosen is relevant to managers to consider for their organisations.

Your paper should have the following structure:

  • Abstract (appx 200 words, not included in word count)
  • Introduction (appx 200-225 words)
    • Identify the purpose of the paper
  • Body (appx 1000 words)
    • Identify what future proofing is and how it is important for organisations
    • Link future proofing to your managerial practice choice and explain its relevance (now and in the future)
    • Link your practice to theory and concepts
    • Identify the strategies organisations might use with regards to your practice choice
  • Conclusion (appx 200-225 words)
    • Reiteration your key points and summarise your paper.
  • References (not included in word count)

For report writers

Your goal is to write a report for a business audience elaborating on the management practice you have chosen and how it is relevant to managers to consider for their organisations.

Reports use headings to organise information, and yours should too. Make use of outline numbering (1.0, 2.0, etc) to arrange your information

Your paper should have the following structure:

  • Executive summary (appx 200 words, not included in word count)
  • Introduction (appx 200-225 words)
    • Identify the purpose of the report
  • Body (appx 1000 words)
    • Future Proofing – Identify what future proofing is and how it is important for organisations
    • Managerial Practice – Link future proofing to your managerial practice choice and explain its relevance (now and in the future)
    • Theory and Concepts – Link your practice to theory and concepts
    • Recommendations – Identify the strategies organisations might use with regards to your practice choice
  • Conclusion (appx 200-225 words)
    • Reiteration your key points and summarise the report.
  • References (not included in word count)

Referencing

All referencing should be in ACU Harvard style; however if you are coming from another faculty, you may choose to use your usual referencing style. If this is the case you must indicate at the top of your reference list what referencing style you are using (e.g. APA, MLA, Chicago, etc).

Please ensure your essay makes use of in-text citations and a reference list. Missing citations or references is equivalent to plagiarism.
