Understanding the chain of infection, modes of transmission, nursing management, and disease/infection prevention are essential to our role as a nurse.
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to explore the chain of infection in detail and how it pertains to specific disease processes, in addition to the nurse’s role in prevention, management, or treatment.
1. Choose one infectious disease process.
2. Illustrate the chain of infection as it pertains specifically to your chosen infectious disease process (see Ch 28, p 23 figure 28-1).

3. Write a small summary of the chain of infection that you have illustrated and describe what your role as the nurse would be (would your role focus on educating for prevention or helping with treatment and management). Additionally, imagine your patient is hospitalized, what level of isolation would your patient require (what PPE would you need to utilize as the nurse caring for this patient).
Be creative with how you deliver your illustrations. You can create a Powerpoint or Prezi, an art infographic, web pictures, or your own interpretation (those are not exhaustive, please be creative).
