Are borders “the cause of national identity, or the result of it” and how does this influence people within a certain group or nationality (Patent)? What are some of the ideological powers behind borders that “even in today’s world are surprisingly important and powerful symbols of national identity” and what role do they serve in thinking more about the fluid nature of borders (Patent)?

While some borders may be natural, other borders are created by social construction. In focusing more on politics, “how do these ‘real’ physical borders at different levels…influence processes of territorial inclusion and exclusion” (8)?

Why is important to recognize certain borders and people who may be “left out—or why [they] are included” (1)?

Structuring the Research Paper

Structuring the Research Paper:

How Does It Go Again?

Assuming you have a topic and some research done, the next part are the essential parts of a research paper. Many of these elements are familiar to you. Essays 1 and 2 prepared you to write this paper. Let us review each part specifically especially in relation to your research paper.

INTRO

The first paragraph should still be the introduction, which introduces your main argument and counterargument. Like Essay 2, you should introduce the authors and essays you will discuss in your essay, your main ideas you will discuss in your argument and a thesis statement providing an argument with supporting reasons including a solution to the problem. In reviewing the introduction, keep in mind that unlike previous essays where you only added one to two sources, you will need to introduce at least one book and three articles. Any additional sources should be added in other spots in the essay including the literature review.
